Frequently asked questions:

1. What is expected of me as a singer?

Like any team activity, success takes practice and dedication. Singers are expected to attend rehearsals, prepare material prior to rehearsals, and improve their own musicianship and abilities through regular practice. WE are at our best when YOU are at your best.

2. What sort of music does the male chorus perform?

We love the range of music we sing. From classical choral repertoire to folk, sea shanties to theatre, sacred and secular and more.

3. Is there a membership fee?

Yes, however singers will not be turned away due to financial barriers and we are happy to work with you to find a path that works. Membership for each of our two semesters is $130 and can be made in full or installments.

4. Can I visit a rehearsal?

Absolutely! Every rehearsal is open to anyone who would like to attend. If you are interested, please send us an email to let us know you’re coming! This is a great opportunity to get a feel for the rehearsal process, meet fellow singers, and experience what the Quarantones Male Chorus is all about!  We rehearse Thursday afternoons from 2:15 to 4:15 at Comox Presbyterian Church, 725 Aspen Road in Comox.

5. How many performances in a Season?

Typically a season will include 2-3 formal concerts. Additional performances may occasionally be added outside of our concert series. These may include holiday events, community events, guest appearances, fundraising events, etc.

6. Do I need to buy/rent special performance outfits?

At this time our standard performance attire is all black: dress pants/long-sleeved shirts/socks/dress shoes. This is under review and is sometimes adapted for special concerts such as sea shanties. If we decide on special attire, members will purchase their own however as with membership fees we will find ways that work for those who need help.

7. Do I need special training to be part of this chorus?

No, but you do need the ability to read music relatively easily, and to sing in tune.  Voices are selected based in part on the Director's assessment of their "fit" with the choir's team atmosphere and its characteristic resonance and sound.  Choral experience is an asset but not an absolute requirement.
