Some comments from the “Brother’s Sing On” concert...

Glenys: It was wonderful . . . so many talented musicians!

Pam: What a great concert! The Quarantones Male Chorus gets better every time!

Suzanne: Just want to let you know how much we enjoyed the concert last Saturday. You folks are very entertaining and the music you produce brings a smile to our heart. Your supporting musicians, stage manager and of course, your brilliant musical director  all contribute to a most pleasant performance.

Some comments from the “Lest We Forget 2023” concert...

Bruce: “Fabulous Quarantones concert today. Thanks to everyone involved! Great job Denise Marquette, Kevin Marquette, Austin Diotte-Turner and so many more. And if you ever get a chance to watch and listen to a fantastic women’s group called Zephyr, make it happen. So good.

Sue: “Saw the concert last night. It was excellent!”

Bob: “Very moving indeed”

Joan: “This was the best choir concert I have attended since we moved to the Comox Valley. And believe me, I’ve been to a few!”

Sue: “Good morning, Greg. I wanted you to know how much we enjoyed the concert. It really was special;  your choir is full of talented singers and your concerts are always so personable. The women’s choir was such a lovely addition to the concert. I left the church thinking I’d just been to one of the best concerts of my life. Kudos to everyone. Sue.”

Dee: “The songs you sang on Remembrance Day, here in Campbell River reminded me of so many memories I had of my parents in their lives. I really enjoyed all the songs that the men sang alone, as well as with the Zephyr choir. They all sounded beautiful together.”

Beth: My Mother in law recently moved here from Vancouver, and she also thought the concert was the best concert she’s experienced in a long time.  She thinks the Quarantones are right on par with Chor Leoni.   “Congratulations to you guys as well. You have such a beautiful, blended sound and so many talented voices! “

Anon: A friend asked me how often we rehearsed our joint numbers, and I said we got together once before the concert. It blew her mind, she said it sounded as though we had been singing together for a long time...

Some comments from the “Sea Shanties show at Nautical Days” concert...

Sue: “It was a great show, congratulations.”

Di: “Enjoyed the performance tonight. I can feel how much fun you all have. Keep singing.”

Ellen: “Well - I loved the show!” “You guys have really improved since last time I saw you!” “Wow!”

Ginny: “My favourite song was Leave Her Johnny, Leave Her, it was so beautiful.”

Deborah: “I have had one of those sea shanties roaming around in my head constantly since the show, every waking moment, it seems.”

Margie: "What a performance... great selection of songs, beautifully sung and good balance... my neighbours and I all found the encore came before we were ready to leave... ready to buy tickets for your next performance.”

Some comments from the “New Directions” concerts...

Kelly: “Great concert this afternoon...love the sound of the Quarantones...so much fun.”

Sue: “The church has such great acoustics. Totally enjoyed it.“

Lynn: “I really enjoyed you guys.”

Judith: “Great performance today…I certainly enjoyed it…well done gentlemen and ladies.”

Linda: “You were awesome! Great singing, wonderful repertoire. Thanks!”

Mary: "Bravo to The Quarantones!”
”Susan and I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Susan has sung in several choirs and remarked how together you all were. I was also impressed with how tight you were as a team! It was a great mix of old and new and the encore squeezed a tear out for me, as this was a favourite of my Mum’s - from Carousel. I think her generation saw lots of adversity, yet soldiered on. “I look forward to subsequent performances!”

Myrna: “I was very impressed with your concert… you guys did a great job on the repertoire and I thought that the whole audience really loved it. My husband said it was the best choir concert he has ever attended in the Comox Valley. It sure must have had a profound effect on him… and believe me, I've dragged him out to hundreds of them! He's still going on about how much he enjoyed it!”

Neil: “I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your concert last weekend. The sound was so full and clear it really caught my attention right away.  Java Jive was so lively and upbeat that it immediately set my toes tapping.  Your Ave Maria was very moving and is one of my favourite hymn. Bonnie Dundee, Eriskay Love Lilt and Loch Lomond were all songs I recognized from the primary school sing-a-longs from my childhood.  I had not remembered the words but you had me humming along.  Mull of Kintyre is a great song and fit so well with the previous selections. Only You was just a total knock out of the park!  It was so fun and exciting and the soloist did a great job singing and acting it up. The song after that, Down In The Valley, was another familiar song from my youth in school and it brought back many memories. I could go on and on as the entire program was so stirring and well done, and I enjoyed the fact that so many of the songs brought back great memories of singing in my youth. All in all, it was a very enchanting and entertaining evening and I look forward to seeing more of The Quarantones.  Again, well done!”

Ted: “It was a great concert at Comox United!”

Garrick: “The performances were excellent. While the Sea Shanties performance at Anderton Gardens was very good, the “New Directions” Concert took it to a higher level. The harmonies were fuller creating a resonance that filled the venues. Outstanding!”

Jenn: “I thoroughly enjoyed attending the Quarantones "New Directions" concert last weekend. There were many lovely moments of togetherness, compelling storytelling, and harmony. I particularly appreciated the range and diversity of the repertoire and a clear attention to delivering each piece with heart, integrity, and a high level of musicianship. I am excited to hear this ensemble develop in the coming years. The richness of the male voices, the playfulness and comradery, as well as a clear commitment to excellence and exploration of choral music makes an evening with the Quarantones a memorable, uplifting and heartwarming event.”

Some comments from the “Lest We Forget” concerts...

Margie: “Thank you so much for the performance last evening and will you please pass on my thanks and gratitude to the choir and everyone involved in its making. It was thought provoking for us as listeners but I know how being involved in such an undertaking also can gave quite an impact.”

I told you how the remembrances of Gallipoli moved me, especially the song The Band played Waltzing Matilda. It always gets me. I see you did the arrangement, nicely done.”

Sue: “So heartfelt and touching. Plus the Children’s Choir! Fantastic.”

Young lady: Told me as she was leaving that she loved the performances but that we made her cry.... I was a bit teary at times myself.

Robert: “It was a beautiful concert last night Quarantones! Thank you!”

Evelyn: “Your dynamics were amazing.”

Anonymous: “This was the best male chorus I’ve ever heard.”

Ted: “An excellent Remembrance Day concert. Exemplary performance, so impressive! Tears and more…”

Guy: “Great concert!!”

Di: “I really enjoyed the concert today. So moving. Thanks for sharing your music and helping us all remember.”

Kelly: “Several times, but in particular during the chorus of “After the War”, I felt an electric charge up my nape, and an overwhelming urge to turn my face towards the group, so that the air being pushed, spun by your voices could wash over both ear and cheek at the same time. But I could not move, fixated on the dots on the page, aware in my periphery of a woman dabbing at her face. I was drained and exhilarated by the performance, a fried bundle of nerves. Trying to be one with y’all—our very best.”

Bob: “I really enjoyed your concert! The personal touch with letters home from WW2 soldiers was impactful, along with songs for and from the Ukraine. Very good blend and expressive singing from the Quarantones.”

Pam: “Your concert was so moving! Making the concert even more impactful were the letters and personal stories, woven throughout the songs. The singing? Passionate and worshipful. From the first note of "Oh Canada" to "Let there be Peace on Earth"..... I was transported. It was a special afternoon. I hope "The Quarantones" considers presenting this concert annually, maybe even in communities nearby.”

Bruce: “Great performance!”

Anonymous: “We were quite surprised by the calibre of the group and concert. We are originally from Vancouver and have gone to a multitude of concerts in Vancouver and area, your Chorus was better then almost any group we have heard in the past! It wasn’t too sad, but very contemplative and thought provoking, especially with the readings included.”

Some comments from the “Wade in the Water” concerts...

Stephanie: “The group is so tight.”

Shirley: “They sounded like one voice.”

Anonymous: “The harmonies were amazing.”

Kelly: “Old Man River was so powerful.”

Julie: “Please pass on my excitement to everyone else in the choir about tonight's show, it was absolutely fantastic. The music was wonderful, the solos were lovely, the flute/piano piece was great..   I had so many favourite songs and moments. It was such a great night, thank you!”

Wendy: “The quiet high notes were so sensitive.” “Love you guys.”

Anonymous: “The sound just washed over me.”

Bruce: “Super concert this afternoon. Thanks to both of you for the exceptional entertainment.”

Marg: “Congratulations! What a wonderful concert.” “They are wonderful.”

Janet: ”Love you guys.”

Mike: “Wonderful singing.”

Suzanne: “I wouldn’t miss one of their concerts.”

Kelly: “Great concert by the way!  I love your expressive ''singing" faces, so much fun to watch & listen to.”

Bo: “What a fantastic concert. You were sold out, but I charmed my way in, I'm glad I did, because I thoroughly enjoyed it. You were storytellers with your music. You sounded lovely, manly, strong and vulnerable all at once. I felt very blessed to be in the audience and I feel extra lucky that I get to sing with you all every week. Bravo! “

Margie: The concert last Saturday afternoon was the best one yet! Being a person who loves being around, in and on water I loved the program and your voices were so perfectly balanced and blended throughout. I especially loved ‘Shenandoah’ as I remember it being played as the opening of a program on CBC radio (in the ‘40’s and 50’s) featuring a male choir singing lots of sea shanties and other songs. The rendition by the Quarantones just might have been a little bit better!! Duco and I decided to camp and hike in the Shenandoah valley on our way home after our time of study in Quebec because of that memory.
